Cuestas® is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works between Brooklyn and Bogota. He studied Visual Arts back in La Universidad de Los Andes where he started a Visual and Design collective called Makinola®, developing art projects, curatorial proposals and designing exhibitions-paraphernalia and clothes.
Based in Colombia, Cuestas® went to Tokyo in 2002, where he worked as a greeting card designer and animator, an experience that changed his perspective of the world. He started moving around, capturing realities, cultural-shocks, and learning gestures and words to summarize emotions and sensations.
Later on Cuestas® continued traveling around Barcelona, Tel Aviv, Beijing, and so on. He made a stop in Peru-Lima's dunes where he worked with children living under precarious conditions and created a project to support their community and promote fashion designers from Perú and Colombia.
Before starting his MFA graduate program at Pratt Institute in the major of Digital Arts, he stopped in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he lived with a chef, he fell in love with food, he ate mofongo, ceviches, fusions between Asian and Caribbean meals and got obsessed with the idea of creating food out of the blue.
Cuestas® recently finished successfully his Master degree. He is currently preparing exhibitions in the United States, Colombia and China, while coming out with recipes, starting a new collective of art, design and clothes name BASTARDO® together with his "infamous" and closest friend Rubén Antorveza, and last but no least developing a syllabus to fulfilled one of his interests, teaching.
